The Crown Building was acquired by Vladislav Doronin in 2015 with the intention of developing the second urban Aman destination within it. Opening its doors in 2021, Aman New York will bring the serenity of Aman to the center of the western world.
Aman New York will introduce Aman’s first ever urban residences; 22 unique units – no two layouts the same – many featuring private swimming pools, large outdoor spaces, and layouts never before seen in a New York City property. These residences are crowned with a one-of-a-kind, five-story Penthouse at the building’s pinnacle, which features swimming pools, indoors and out, an expansive terrace and an activated cupola: an unparalleled dwelling at an unmatched address. Each of the 22 residences will sit above the 83 rooms and suites of the hotel.
Rising 26 stories from the boutique-lined Fifth Avenue, the building’s windows and terraces look out over the vast sweep of parkland and survey the world’s most recognizable skyline.
Open to guests, residents and Aman Club members, a 2,300 square meter Aman Spa fills three stories, with a dramatic 25-meter indoor swimming pool surrounded by fire pits and daybeds as its centerpiece. Two Spa Houses will provide guests with an all-encompassing spa journey, encompassing a double treatment room, sauna and steam rooms, and an outdoor terrace with cabana, daybed and fireplace.
From the subterranean Jazz Bar to the wraparound Garden Terrace overlooking Central Park, Aman New York abounds with sociable spaces for dining, drinking and relaxing. Arva, the convivial Italian restaurant, is complemented by Nama – Aman’s interpretation of Japan’s Washoku dining tradition – as well as a Wine Library and subterranean Jazz Club.
The historic Crown Building was built in 1921 and designed by Warren & Wetmore, architects of New York’s Grand Central Terminal. It is an iconic building in Midtown Manhattan known for its Beaux-Arts architecture and gilded crown, illuminated at night.
The building became the first home of the Museum of Modern Art—from 1929 to 1932. Under the guidance of Abby Aldrich Rockefeller and Director Alfred H. Barr Jr., some of the most influential exhibitions in the museum’s history were staged during that three-year tenure within the Crown Building, including the prominent Modern Architecture exhibit.
Developed by OKO Group, the Crown Building is undergoing a monumental transformation that will see it restored in the spirit of Aman, signaling a new chapter ahead of its centenary in 2020.
